State Highway 12 runs through the Waipoua Forest. The Waipoua Forest Visitor Centre is located in the heart of Waipoua Forest, just 1 km off State Highway 12 (the turn off is sign posted), approximately 1 hours drive from Dargaville.

Trounson is located about 30 minutes drive north of Dargaville, just off State Highway 12, en route to the Waipoua Forest. Look for the Trounson signpost. If travelling from the north, watch for the signpost located shortly after you leave the Waipoua Forest.
